A Study on the Effects of Pyungwee-san and Compounding of Medicine in Pyungwee-san on the Movement of Gastrointestinal Smooth Muscles, Anticatharsis and Central Nervous System

Abstract
A Study on the Effects of Pyungwee-san and Compounding of Medicine in Pyungwee-san on the Movement of Gastrointestinal Smooth Muscles, Anticatharsis and Central-Nervous System.
Objectives : The aim of this experimental study was to investigate the effects of Pyungwee-san samples on the movement of gastrointestinal tract, liver injury and blood pressure by using rats or mice.
Methods : Samples were divided into five groups; Sample-¥° : Pyungwee-san (Atractylodes Rhizoma, Aurantii Nobilis Pericarpium, Magnoliae Cortex and Glycyrrhizae Radix), Sample-¥± : Exclusion of Atractylodes Rhizoma from Pyungwee-san, Sample-¥² : Exclusion of Aurantii Nobilis Pericarpium from Pyungwee-san, Sample-¥³: Exclusion of Magnoliae Cortex Rhizoma from Pyungwee-san, Sample-¥´ Exclusion of Glycyrrhizae Radix from Pyungwee-san.
Results and Conclusions
1. Sample-¥², sample-¥´ showed inhibitory effect on gastric ulcer and gastric secretion on the condition of binded pylorus in rat compared with control.
2. All samples showed inhibitory effect on gastric ulcer induced by HCI-Ethanol in rat compared with control.
3. Sample-¥°, sample-¥±, sample-¥², sample-¥´ showed inhibitory effect on free acidity of gastric secretion, and only sample-¥², sample-¥´ showed inhibitory effect on total acdity in shay rats compared with control.
4. Only sample-¥´ showed accelerative effect on barium sulfate transport in the small intestine of mice compared with control.
5. Sample-¥±, sample-¥³ showed accelerative effect barium sulfate transport in the large intestine of mice compared with control.
6. Only sample-¥´ showed inhibitory effect on serum GOT activities and only sample-¥°, sample-¥´ showed inhibitory effect on serum GPT activities on CCI_4 induced experimental liver injury in rat compared with control.
7. Only sample-¥´ showed inhibitory effect on serum GPT activities on CCI1 induced experimental liver injury in rat compared with control.
8. Sample-¥°, sample-¥±, sample-¥³, sample-¥´ showed significant increasing effect of blood pressure on the carotid arterial in anesthetized rats and sample-¥²(Exclusion of Aurantii Nobilis Pericarpium) has an decreasing effect of blood pressure, and these effects were dependent on their concentrations.
